Low Cost Spay/Neuter for Sonoma County!

Because we were moving, we decided to put off neutering Muchacho until we got settled and could find a good, low-cost place to bring him. The program we found was so awesome, I wanted to share it with you guys!

Sonoma County Animal Services has a program called Love Me, Fix Me that offers spay and neuter services for low income households. The awesome thing is that in addition to the surgery, they will also include necessary vaccinations, a microchip and a license! Mooch needed the neuter, rabies vaccine, and the license. For all that it's $55 for dogs, and $30 for cats! (The low-cost program we went to for Koa cost more than that and didn't include the shots or chip or anything!)

You can get more info and download the form here — just download it, fill it out, submit it via email (or fax or snail mail). The program contacted us after about a week and set an appointment and asked us a few questions about Mooch's health and temperament. They were really understanding about the fact that he can be nervous around new people, and in the case of highly fearful dogs will actually allow the owner to remain with the dog during examination to help them out. We brought Mooch over at about 7:30am and the woman was really sweet with him, and he actually warmed to her immediately.

Pick up was around 3:30pm; the only thing not included was the cone of shame, so we just borrowed an inflatable donut from my dad. Muchacho was a little confused and paranoid when we picked him up but by Day 2 he seemed to have no idea he had undergone surgery and the real struggle has been to keep him from getting to crazy and busting his stitches!
