5 Thanksgiving Tips for Dog Owners

Thanksgiving is tomorrow! In order to make the holiday pleasant and safe for your dogs, here are a few tips:

1. If you are having people over, or will be out of the house for most of the day, try to make some time in the morning to take your dogs for an adventure so they can burn off some steam, which will make it easier for them to relax.

2. When people are over, or while you are away, give them something fun and tasty to work on like a bully stick or a frozen Kong - Koa and Mooch each have a frozen Kong stuffed with chicken and peanut butter that they will enjoy in a quiet room when company is over.

3. Remind guests that it's never safe to give dogs cooked bones, which can splinter and cause health problems, and be wary of giving them anything that contains too much fat or salt.

4. Keep a close eye on the desserts so that your dogs don't end up ingesting any chocolate, xylitol, or too much sugar.

5. Grapes can also be toxic to dogs, as can too much onion or garlic. If you want to share the feast with your dog, the best items to share are a little bit of turkey and some plain mashed potatoes, or better yet sweet potatoes!
